Packed and ready to travel, but it didn’t go quite to plan. In the middle of the afternoon, I received a message to say that my bus for very early tomorrow morning which was going to transfer me to the Gold Coast Airport for my flight had been canceled. Sheesh, thanks for the warning.
After three calls to the service centre, being cut off, and talking to several people who really didn’t know what was going on, I was eventually told that there were no other options, and ‘would I like a refund’. There’s nearly always an option, it’s just that they don’t think about it. Anyway, I suggested that I go down today – the day before, and of course they were seats available on that bus. It did mean I had to scramble to pack the unit in two hours and find some accommodation near the airport, but eventually I did that, so scoffing down an early tea as I stood waiting for the pickup, I headed down a day early.
The obliging driver hearing about his companies treatment dropped me at the hotel instead of the airport, but at that late time of night it was closed and shuttered. Eventually somebody working in the gaming lounge found somebody who had a key, and let me in. A bed above pub with shared facilities, but what the heck. I got a little sleep, and woke up with the sun to start the next adventure.
