Holetown

Morning coffee on the white sandy beach overlooking the Caribbean Sea here in Bridgetown, Barbados, then a morning of researching and planning what we want to do over the next few days.

In the afternoon we climbed aboard a local bus and took an hour long journey north to Holetown. Yep, that’s its name. Holetown has an annual week-long festival which been running every year for the last 70. Various activities, parades and concerts throughout the week, with several hundred local stalls operating every day. Think Moomba, but with people.

Unfortunately, being the last day of the festival, most things have concluded, so we only got to see the 5km fun run and the 5km fun walk, which are not great spectator events. Now, I really have to challenge the designation of fun. First of all, no running is ever fun. Secondly, Mandy and I do a daily fun walk. You know, good company, interesting conversation, coffee at the end. Nothing like today’s fun walk where you wear numbers, have a police escort, sweat buckets, and get a medal for being the first one to the finish line. Sure needed a few officials with little red paddles to enforce the ‘walk’ bit.

Wandered up and down for quite a while looking at the various stalls, then a longer time standing at the bus stop looking at the people walking by. Our bus home was over an hour late, and packed like sardines when it eventually turned up. Whatever man!

Arrived home to our Airbnb in Oistins after dark, and went to a local fast-food chicken restaurant for tea.
