Woke to find the sun shining and hardly a breath of wind. Can understand why people in the black and white era had no idea that a cyclone was about to pummel them. Ain’t the internet wonderful at times like this.
Our incoming plane was on-time and our flight was listed as scheduled, so we caught the shuttle over to the airport and joined the fairly short queue at check in. Lots of flights departing, though all flights after lunch seem to have been cancelled. Sat and had coffee watching two young Japanese girls at our table groom themselves by their phone camera using a small USB hair straightener.
A small Airbus A321 (3-3) and we’d reserved the third seat in our row so we had plenty of room to spread out as we waved goodbye to the approaching chaos and headed for Manila.
As usual, not much to report once we got airborne, until we arrived pretty much on time in Manila. Not sure we’ve had a more efficient airport. Aircraft doors were open to the airbridge in a couple of minutes. At least 20 wheelchairs were lined up to take anybody who felt like it up to the baggage area, each complete with a handler who smiled and greeted every passenger. Baggage came off in 5 minutes. We joined a line of 3 to go through immigration on the nod, and scanned our own online customs declaration as we walked past the customs desk. If anybody from LAX is reading (where last time it took us 2.5 hours just to get through immigration), please pay a visit to look at how it’s done.
Took a Grab (an asian Uber style rideshare) to the hotel for $4. The room is modest but lovely, and the smiles are just delightful.
