Monday

Well after almost 4 weeks of perfect arrangements and nothing ever late, something finally went wrong. Got up at 5:30 to get to airport for 8:30 flight to find it had been cancelled and I was now on the 11:30 flight instead. Could have been in bed for another 3 hours, but I had the chance to sit on the beach across the road from the airport and watch the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean. Beautiful morning.

Finally arrived at Puerto Iguazu which is the town on the Argentinian side of the Falls (its Brazil on the other side), and took the shuttle bus to the hostel. A really laid back, humid, tropical, lush, small town. Bit like Cooktown or Mossman 25 years ago. Hostel is really, really basic. I have a bed and a light in my room. However the hotel itself has a small pool, tropical garden, hammocks, outdoor eating area. Very like the hostel Brendan and I stayed in the Everglades USA a couple of years ago. Spent the afternoon wandering around the town which seems to be coming alive as the tourists arrive back from the falls late afternoon, for tea and entertainment.

Tuesday

My day at the Falls. Took a public bus to the falls, which also seemed to be taking the entire National Park staff to work. It was rather crowded. When we arrived, I walked the Upper Trail which is around the top of the Falls, then after that the Lower Trail around the base of the Falls that I´d just seen from the top.

Spectacular views. The Falls are certainly wider than Niagara, so probably there is more water coming over them, but it didn´t seem to have the force or volume of Niagara which is far more concentrated.

Then took the park train down to the other end of the Falls where there was the big, spectacular waterfall, more like Niagara, so we got both.

At the end of it all, the public bus back into the town.
