So Much For Guards

Not sure how much help the Masai guards would have been last night had lions come a-calling. This morning Amos picked up to Masai spear and offered to show us how to throw it. However, on his first throw the spear broke, and the arrow head came off. "Ah yes", said the Masai. "It's broken."

Half the group were up at 5am for the optional hot air balloon ride, while the rest of us slept in until the 6am game drive departed. We saw elephants, giraffes, buffalo, gazelles (which look just like impala), topi, ostriches and warthogs. Arrived back about 11 for brunch, before lazing the heat of the day away under the trees. Did some washing, did some diary, did some sitting. The weather is terrific. Sunny, with clear blue skies, but temperatures are only in the mid twenties. Warm in the sun, but gorgeous in the shade, and perfect at night for sleeping.

About 3pm we headed off for another evening game drive. Saw several lions which were the highlights, some elephants, and finished at the hippo pool at sunset where about a dozen hippos were carrying on. Only the leopard is proving to be difficult to see.

Roast chicken for tea, and an early night as it started raining.
