Serengeti National Park

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

Had to be up at 6 to leave at 7, but the new tour leaders weren't very organised. We had to leave the truck behind to get into the national parks, so we needed to leave Amos, Patrick, Noah and the truck behind, split into groups of 6 in 4 wheel drives, and meet our new tour guides. It took them some time to load up all of our gear. Then, inevitably, they had to fuel up the cars. Then, inevitably, the fuel had gone 'bad', so we had to go to the next petrol station and do it all again. It was 10am before we hit the road in earnest.

A packed lunch at the gate to the Ngorongoro NP. Even though we are stopping here on the way back, we still have to pass through. Our new driver's name is Simba - there are Simbas everywhere. More bumpy, dirt road, and at 5pm we eventually arrived at Serengeti NP, for the inevitable wait while we bought tickets. All the lateness meant that we sped around the park as quickly as possible as it grew darker. We did see one group of lions lying on some rocks, but our guide parked us behind a group of other cars so we didn't see much.

Set up tents in the dark, and had some gristle for tea before heading for bed. A pretty average day for a supposed highlight.
