Our day to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. We picked up Ashley from the apartment early, and headed off on our 4 hour journey east on the Interstate. Stopped halfway for a stretch and coffee at a roadside stop, and finally arrived about 1:30pm. Had some pizza for lunch at one of the diners, and headed off to the Hall of Fame which is located in the main street.
Wandered around for a few hours. Lots of good themed areas, with information about notable baseball players and officials like Babe Ruth, Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Ty Cobb and hundreds of others. Different rooms showed the evolution of the game over the years, the overseas influences, famous pictures, broadcasters, womens leagues, negro leagues, baseball movies, and finally the Hall of Fame with a plaque for every inductee.
Around closing time we headed off to our nearby motel and checked in just as it started to snow. Watched the local weather on the local weather channel, as a winter snow storm was just blowing in. It had dumped feet of snow in New York and Boston, and closed all the airports there. Had quite a debate as to whether it would be better to try to drive 4 hours home through the snow immediately while it was thin on the ground, or wait till it stopped some time tomorrow and hope that they could then clear the road of the 25cm fall expected overnight. Opted for the safer option of waiting till the morning, so we grabbed McDonalds and took it home before the snow got heavy, and sat in the room to ride it all out. All a bit tense - what if we couldn't make it back for the wedding?
