After a sleep in, and a last breakfast on the verandah, I headed off to Dagoretti Corner Baptist church with Alice and Sarah, the two Aussie girls I had met at dinner last night. I'd recommend Wildebeest Lodge to anybody visiting Nairobi. It's safe and well maintained, and the staff are very helpful, though it's not very central to things, so you'll find yourself in a taxi a bit.
When we arrived they were just setting up, so Daniel walked with us to Elyon High School to give the girls a tour. Quite an eye opener for them. By the time we got back to the church the service had started. Three hours followed of wonderful singing, testimonies, prayers and a message, during which time some children sat next to me and played with my hands and hair and arms and my rings.
The girls and I were all introduced, and I also had the privilege of handing out Christmas parcels of food to every family that was there. It was a memorable experience. At 1:30 we left, although the service was not yet finished, because I had to get another taxi from my lodge to the airport. My taxi driver had been waiting over an hour for me, as the service was so late (this is Africa), so he got a generous tip for his patience. Photos all round and exchanging of contact details before we parted at the lodge.
Made it to the airport and caught my flight to Ethiopia, though there was lots of security - even to get into the terminal, and then another long wait to get through passport control. This time they didn't insist on having my bag wrapped. It was an uneventful flight, and I found Greg waiting for me, as planned, in the airport lounge at Addis Ababa - a lovely Christmas present - and we spent the next two hours catching up on news while waiting for our next flight to Cairo.
