Do You Know The Way To San Jose

A moving day where we drove south from the Guanacaste region where we have been staying at the Riu, all the way back to San Jose, so there's not much exciting to tell.

We're going to miss the Riu. Didn't get to all of the restaurants, nor get to do half the activities. What am I going to do without my plate of crispy bacon for breakfast? A contrast to the Hilton we are at tonight where there is only one expensive restaurant, a standard size bed, no fridge, no water, and you have to pay for wi-fi. Oh, the injustice.

By the time we had that last walk on the beach, that last 6 course breakfast, and wheedled that last bit of wi-fi from the ether, it was about 10:30 before we finally got on the road. Took the coastal road south to Puntarenas where we stopped for lunch. It's a town on the end of a peninsula which is busy because of the ferry service that the locals use to get across the bay, and a number of tourist facilities that would be jumping in the high season, but look rather scruffy at lunchtime during the off season.

Had a burger at the local pub/club, principally because you could then use the bathrooms. Our guide yesterday had politely apologised for having to pay to use the facilities in Nicaragua, as they are privately owned. Unlike in Costa Rica, we were told proudly, as the government (presumably he means the local council) owns them, which means that they are free. The only problem is, of course, that they are nowhere to be found, so you have to buy something from a local business to use theirs.

Arrived at our hotel near to the airport about 6pm in anticipation of our flight out tomorrow. Inevitably, as we headed towards the lobby to go for dinner, the skies opened up. Decided to run to the nearest shop which happened to be a pizza shop, then took the pizza back to our room and watched one of the NBA finals games with Brendan and Rachel.
