The Longreach Show is a one-day show these days, but very good. Margie, the matriarch of the family we were staying with, is the President of the Show Society, and wandered around in her glad rags all day.
Saw the pavilions, sampled the wares, examined the local displays, and watched the horsemanship.
Highlight was probably the dog high jump. The winner, for the second year in a row, was a dog that cleared 3.21 metres from a running start. That's 3.21 metres. Put it this way, if it were possible for Mandy to stand on my shoulders, the dog would still clear us!
The Grand Parade was kitchy but fun, and the speeches were predictable. Just what is the deal having the opening ceremony at 5:30pm as all the stall holders were packing up?
After the Grand Parade it was the Wild West Show where the stockman got two bulls to run up a ramp onto the top of his semi-trailer, then stand there dociley. Pretty impressive.
Finished off with the obligatory fireworks.
