Did a big walk across town to the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens. Lovely park, with a terrific Japanese Gardens and a tropical fruit tree section which was rather unique.

After lunch at the cafe, and a walk around some of the lake, we headed off to the adjacent Rockhampton Zoo, which was not only well designed but, as a bonus, free. Saw a few things that you don't commonly come across - some very awake wombats, some koalas on the move, a lyrebird, and a pair of cassowaries.
