Decided to make the most of our last full day in St Petersburg by taking an organised walking tour of the city sights and back streets. Unfortunately Anna, our guide, was an hour and a half late, and by then the rest of the tour group had already bailed out. Meant that we sat around until noon waiting, but at least we had her to ourselves for the afternoon.
We walked around the University precinct (which Anna had attended so was interesting), the Dostoyevsky precinct (which was rather boring as neither of us had read any of his books and didn't really care where the heroines and villains lived), and the market area (which was fascinating). Saw lots of ice floating down the Neva River where the was none yesterday. Visited the cathedrals of St Nicholas, which is an operating church so we could get inside, and St Isaac which is a museum and was closed. Saw lots of lanes and canals, and heard lots of history, and enjoyed the day.
Took the trolley bus back to the apartment to rest our feet before dinner.
