Beetled down the M4 to Bristol, and headed out first to a suburb called Henbury to see Blaze Hamlet, a lovely community of about 8 thatched cottages in a circle, joined only by walking paths. Originally designed to house the elderly of the village, they are now owned by families and worth a king's ransom. Wandered around the path and enjoyed the tranquility.
Morning tea near the famous Clifton suspension bridge, which we walked over and back. Spans a really steep sided ravine, so I suppose it was a genuinely amazing engineering feat, but it may just be famous 'cause there's nothing much else in the city.
Parking in Bristol was atrocious, so we parked the car way out near the zoo and took a local bus into the centre. After some lunch we wandered around, saw the obligatory cathedral complete with an 18th century bread oven for baking the communion built into one of the walls and a set of misericords (wooden carvings) under each of the choir seats, a lovely covered market, and a redeveloped dock area (every town has one).
After running out of things to look at late afternoon, we opted to come back out to the B&B, and laze around watching sport. At the moment we can choose from the Ashes tour, Wimbledon, and the World Cup - all live.
