When we finally rolled over in the morning, we found that it was 11:15! The room was dark, cool and quiet so we just slept through breakfast. After getting organised we walked down to Komtar, had lunch of crepes and waffles, exchanged some more money and hopped onto the decrepit number 93 bus to Batu Ferringhi. Walked through the town and an adjacent fishing village, and along the beach to the Penang Muttiara where I stayed on my previous visit. Had an expensive coke next to the pool, then walked through the resort to the town. Went looking for the batik factory which no longer existed, and then up the road to the Forest Recreation Park and Museum.
Had a lovely walk through the forest before heading off back down to the town. Took the bus a short distance to the site of the night market, sat on the beach and watched the horses for a while, and then went and had tea in a local restaurant while the market came to life. Listened to jazz versions of favourite hymns whilst eating tea. Rather long and varied market where the speciality was watches, sunglasses and CDs. Bought ourselves fake Rolexes, a DVD for Brendan and some knick-knacks for Mandy to give away as presents. Also some reading glasses for Mandy. Bedlam broke out shortly afterwards as the police raided the market, and every fake brand-name was hurriedly packed up and thrown into vans leaving the shelves rather bare. Luckily we bought early (special discounts the first customers of course).
A hairy ride home on an equally decrepit bus, and watched more tennis before falling asleep.
