Helpful Amtrak wouldn't cloak our packs, so mid-morning we caught a local bus in the mall with all our gear. Took it in turns to eat, mind the gear and shop. Mid-afternoon train to the border at Niagara Falls, and an on-train customs inspection. When we were eventually freed, we collected our Canadian VIA rail tickets and walked 2 km to the hotel -- a big edifice near the casino. Went across the road to Planet Hollywood for tea. It was a lovely meal but so expensive when you add GST, provincial tax, and a tip. The GST, local taxes and tips add 30% to every bill. Rang family on their Christmas day, but they hadn't yet arrived at their lunch.
