After a huge continental breakfast, we went down town and did a self guided walking tour of Philadelphia's historic mile including the Independence visitors centre, the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were both signed, Congress Hall, Independence Square, the first and second banks of America and the city tavern. Walked back past Christ Church, Betsy Ross house and a Elfreth's Alley. The security alert has been downgraded from orange to yellow, but you still have to physically undress to enter anywhere important. Philadelphia is the friendliest and happiest city we have visited, with close to the best motel.
