Nairobi, Kenya

Up at 5 to pack up and get on the roads for our 8 hour trip back to Nairobi. Left at 7, but our plans were almost derailed an hour down the bumpy road where we came across a large truck with a broken spring sitting slap bang in the middle of the creek crossing, with no other way past.

'Ladies and Gentlemen,' our guide told us after a bit of a conference with the driver, as the part for the truck will take hours to come from Nairobi, we are going to build a bridge.' Well, a bridge may be overstating it, but all 14 of us spent the next hour carting rocks to half fill in the river crossing so that the truck could ford it. After 3 aborted attempts, and more rocks, Patrick was confident enough on the 4th attempt to gun the engine, and he succeeded in getting across, with lots of cameras trained on him.

About 2pm we got to the outskirts of Nairobi, and stopped at a shopping mall to do a full stock up for the next 4 days. Reached camp, and the first priority for almost everybody was plugging in all the devices that needed to be charged - camera batteries, phones, ipads - long before they worried about lunch or tents or ....

After a bite of very late lunch, we set up the tents and attempted to use the woeful internet at the campground. Not only are the computers slow, there is a fine system displayed on the walls if you dare to try to upload or download a photo. It's Africa! What else would you be trying to do?

However, word had got around that there was wi-fi at the nearby mall, and there was. The sports bar was very friendly and helpful, so we bought drinks and dinner, and loaded up 7 days of blogs as we munched.

Hot showers for once, and bed, before we get up to start it all over again, but this time south to Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti.
