We were up earlier than most and got all of our things charged before breakfast. It was a leisurely start for once, as Amos was doing a lot of shopping, booking and organising prior to another eight people joining us for the next leg of the trip.

Eventually drove across town to the hotel where we started, to pick up the new starters, but we had quite a break as 3 of them were running late. Mostly Australians and New Zealanders, but finally two German girls to at least add a token variety to the mix. The truck is now completely full, with every seat taken, and every nook and cranny loaded with food, drink and gear. Somebody has to ride up front with the driver if Amos wants a seat.

Very slow going on the highway south east out of town. Enormous number of trucks as it is the main highway between the country's capital Nairobi, and it's port Mombasa. After several hours we pulled off the road into a curio store for a lunch break near the turnoff to Amboseli, and after that we were back on dirt roads for the next 70kms.

Did a game drive on the way to the campsite. It's quite a small park, and is principally home to elephants and zebras. Saw large groups of elephants wandering across the swamps - 20 or 30 in each group - with lots of babies, some born in the last week, but not much else.

There was a possibility of upgrading  when we got into camp, so we decided on a cottage. Very basic, but a change from a tent. The toilet did work, and the shower had cold water, but there was no drain in the shower so the bathroom filled like a lake. There was a basin, but no taps or drain, so you couldn't wash your hands at all.
