This morning we farewelled Shantell and Julie who were heading home to Broome, and not proceeding on to Zanzibar with the rest of us. They were the 'glue' that kept the tour group of 20 together, and we're going to miss them.
Basically just a transit day of 375 kms. However, we had a stop for shopping before we left Arusha. Unfortunately, Amos hadn't thought of the fact that supermarkets wouldn't be open at that time of day, so we used the time to wander up and down, and we came across our first coffee shop of the tour. Score! They aren't really an African thing, but we didn't argue and bought a cappuccino and a poppyseed muffin. Of course, we had to stop again later at another supermarket and they had ice creams so that was morning tea. We must be back in civilisation.
Really the rest of the day was spent in the truck, stopping at each of the innumerable police check points. Lunch was a bush stop, and we arrived at Korogwe around 4pm. Most of the group went straight to the local primary school where they sang to the kids, and got sung to. There was an all-in hokey-pokey and a bit of a tour. We presented them with sports equipment, and then challenged the boys to a game of soccer, and the girls to a game of netball.
While, back at camp, I did some washing, and found that there was wireless internet at the camp restaurant, so I got a few blogs loaded before it went down in true African tradition.
