A day somebody else has already forgotten - but let's start at the beginning. Mandy was up early to Skype the Syndal South staff and her prep grade, then went back to bed it was so early. The day was cold, and it was raining steadily, so we abandoned our plan to catch the train out into the country to Hillerod, and then walk to Fredensborg Castle where Frederick and Mary live, as we were already half drowned by the time we got to the local station. Instead, we took the wimps option, went into the city and walked around a couple of department stores.

Came across a huge billboard advertising Aussie Bums, but Mandy figured it was a waste as she'd already bought one.

The rain had eased by lunchtime, so we went to one of the local parks, the Frederiksberg Gardens, and walked around admiring the gardens and the castle. Seems that one of the Frederiks used it as the palace in about 1860 after they abandoned the castle in town. Mandy couldn't get over how green everything was. All the new leaves are a very bright green. Amongst the gardens we came across the famous 'dummy' tree where mothers string up their kid's dummies when they are no longer required.

Got back to the hostel about 4pm to a rather chaotic scene. You may remember that when we first arrived at the hostel there appeared to be nobody there, then when we went back later in the day we sat outside for an hour before we could rouse the old guy inside from his sleep to let us in. We figured that he was minding the hostel while the owner was away. We last saw him that night when going to bed, and thought that he just slept a lot. Well, the ambulance parked outside and the ambulance officers inside with body bag thought differently.

Think that I must have been the last person to speak to him, on Monday night about 40 hours ago. We had police interviews and searches, and a couple of text messages from the owner who, it turns out, is on holidays in Spain where the airport is closed due to volcanic ash! In amongst all of that, 5 new guests arrived from Italy to start their holiday.

Guess we won't forget the Copenhagen hostel.
