Up early and bid farewell to the Brinks who were also packing to leave for their flight a few minutes after we did. Being early and a Saturday, we beat most of the traffic, and had a good run to Heathrow. Returned the car, checked in, went through security and organized the VAT refund on the couple of things we've bought, though that will take 5 weeks to appear on my credit card.
Sat around for a while once all of the formalities were finished waiting for our gate number to be announced. Heathrow is very busy being the start of the UK school holidays, and there are queues everywhere including all the coffee shops which have lines out the doors. However, despite all the recent union action, flights seemed to be departing on time, at least until we boarded that is. We received a stream of 'just another ten minutes' and 'we are currently 25 in the queue' announcements from the captain, and finally left about 45 minutes late on a Qantas 747-400. Smooth flight, and managed to get some sleep. Arrived in Hong Kong at breakfast time.
