Alice Springs

Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia
Monday, April 18, 1988

Squashed an awful lot in today as it was going to be our last day here. We started by doing the heritage trail walk around Alice Springs which took in the Flynn Memorial Church, Adelaide House -- the first hospital started by Flynn, a couple of old buildings, Panorama Guth -- a huge circular mural of the surrounding district, and a tour of the Royal Flying Doctor Service base. Then a visit to the School of the Air, up to the camel farm where Greg and Brendan had a short ride around the yard, and then Greg went on an hour-long ramble down the Todd River.

A quick shop followed to top up our supplies, a scramble up Anzac Hill for a view of Alice Springs at sunset, then a dash out to look over the Telegraph Station before dark. We then joined the Mudies at Kentucky Fried Chicken to celebrate David's 10th birthday. After an ice cream for dessert and a quick planning conference, we fell into bed.
