Devils Marbles

Devils Marbles, Northern Territory, Australia
Tuesday, April 19, 1988

Headed north towards Darwin. Aileron for morning tea. A bit of a dump, but surprisingly for the look of it, the store had a good range of food and supplies including, would you believe, two colour televisions each worth $500. Lunch at Barrow Creek near the infamous repeater station where the officers were attacked by a tribe of aborigines with a loss of two lives. Though it was still standing you can't get in.

Arrived at the Devil's Marbles at afternoon tea. Lots of flies. Struck our first bad roads today, though it is all comparative. Two detours for roadworks, and we met two road trains while on the gravel. The country is remarkably green. They've had two 'hundred year' rains this year. We were told that there is always a stiff easterly blowing near Tennant Creek, and they were right. A warm night with a nice breeze.
