The flies drove us out of the Devil's Marbles early, so we headed towards Tennant Creek vowing to buy fly nets which we did, as well as the Melbourne Sun at five times the normal price. After a wander around town and a play in the park for morning tea we headed north past Three Ways -- the road junction to Townsville, after which the roads improved. Lunch under the trees at Renner Springs -- still warm but the breeze had deserted us.
We were planning to camp near Lake Woods just west of Elliott but the road was too sandy and the water level too low so we found the caravan park with a pool behind the Mobil service station and stayed there. Today was the first day that the heat worried as, though not the Mudies -- we found that they are constantly using their air-conditioner. The vegetation on the side of the road was unbelievably green -- Victorian farmers would be envious.
