Felt quite good in the morning, and hadn't needed any painkillers overnight. If only they'd let you sleep! They woke me at two o'clock for tests, four o'clock for a wash, six o'clock for breakfast and eight o'clock for an assisted shower and walk, which was good except for managing the drip stand.

Mandy came for an hour in the morning and then another hour in the afternoon laden with supplies and shopping. Hired a TV. Allowed only sips of water. Mandy came in again after tea, though I was very tired and not feeling too well, so wasn't great company. My wound was feeling okay and giving no pain, but my stomach was filling up with water, and I was feeling nauseous. Finally the nurses talked me into having a half dose of pethidine so I slept reasonably well except for the two hourly antibiotics and four hourly tests. Later on I found that I had developed acute peritonitis.
