Kuranda and the Atherton Tablelands

The minibus picked us up at 8:10 and took us to the railway station, where we boarded the old Kuranda carriages. After a lovely trip up, which Brendan thoroughly enjoyed, we had a short morning tea in the station tea rooms before being taken by bus for a tour of the Kuranda, Mareeba and Atherton areas, and then a picnic lunch at Tinaroo Dam.

From there we were taken to see the Curtain Fig Tree, Lake Eacham where we were unsuccessful in spotting the turtles, and Lake Barrine. We decided against doing the lake cruise as I was fairly worn out by this time, so we had a lovely cup of coffee (my first) on the balcony overlooking the lake while Brendan fed the ducks and pelican. A long and winding picturesque drive home down off the tablelands.

Brendan insisted on having a swim, so it was a short teeth chattering dip after tea. After he was asleep I had a craving for chocolate, so we went searching the town for an open shop. What you get away with when you're a patient!
