Ayers Rock

Ayers Rock, Northern Territory, Australia
Tuesday, July 23, 1996

An early morning, so we were down at the rock ready to climb about 7.30am which was close enough to sunrise and 10 minutes ahead of 10 tour buses. Stopped frequently, but Ashley and Brendan both made it easily.  Was overcast and mildly windy.  Had a snack on top before descending.  Went to the cultural centre afterwards then home for lunch.  We also did the 1 ½ hours Mala walk with an aboriginal ranger guide.

Nobody was really itching to go out again but we kind of talked ourselves into going to the Olgas mid afternoon.  The road is now made all the way, and there is a ranger station and viewing areas at the other end.  Walked a couple of kilometres into the Valley of the Winds as we'd never been in there before.

Back to the van at sunset to finish our shopping and have tea.
