An early morning as we had to vacate the caravan park, move to Gaye's house down the road and unhitch, pack for two days at Rottnest, then drive to Hillary’s Marina for a 9:30 departure. We managed with a few minutes to spare. It was a reasonably smooth trip across, and we spotted two whales on the way. Procured a four berth cabin (two bunks) with very limited cooking facilities (a 2 burner stove, one kettle and one dirty saucepan) but it was cheap. Lovely setting with quokkas and peacocks hanging around. After lunch and an explore of the shops, we went for a walk visiting the cemetery, lookout and lakes on the way to Geordie Bay. After an ice cream and pat of the quokkas, we walked back along the coast past the lighthouse.
We had tea down at the pub which wasn’t very economical, but the only thing open. The island is lovely – very like the Prom with more facilities and no cars. Beaches and walks are great, but it’s very noisy as there is a large construction project going on, and there are workmen and bobcats everywhere.
