Our first leg was only a short hop into Balladonia to buy cough lollies for Brendan and to use the facilities. Just as well that we didn't have to buy petrol there – it was a $1.04 per litre, the first time on our trip that it was over a dollar. As it was, I paid 99¢ a litre at our next stop in Caiguna. This doubled as a morning tea stop, having just advanced our watches 45 minutes to that oddity in this part of the world called Central Western Time.
It was terribly windy all day which made every stop unpleasant, even more so when eating, so morning tea was a rather rushed affair. Reached Cocklebiddy about 12:45 which was 2.00 PM eastern time. As we couldn’t get any radio stations of any description, and it was the Grand Final day, and it was the Swan's first grand final since 1944, we thought we’d better do the right thing, so we sat in the restaurant at Cocklebidy and watched it. Not a great result as North Melbourne won by some seven goals, but they weren’t disgraced.
Surfed all the way to Mundrabilla after the game thanks to a very strong tailwind. Petrol consumption was phenomenal. A roadside stop for the night.
