Last Stop In Vancouver

The day in all holidays that I really hate. It's the 'line up here, empty your pockets, hold you arms up, take your shoes off, fill out this form, sit down, buckle up, turn it off, watch this, pull down your shade, have you anything to declare' day. And, unlike the day you start your holiday, there's nothing coming afterwards that's going to make it all worthwhile.

However, we did get one last nature surprise which happened in Connie's front garden when a very young deer just wandered across the lawn and into the bushes. Didn't expect that. We were hoping that the mother may be close by, but we couldn't see her.

Connie was kind enough to drive us to the Seattle airport (SEATAC to the cognoscenti) past an Arby's so that Mandy could get another one of their great pecan chicken salads.

Said a reluctant farewell to Connie at the airport, extracted a vague promise to visit us one day, and headed off to look for our bus that was to transfer us from SEATAC to the Vancouver airport for our return flight. It was certainly cheaper to take the bus between the airports, and a lot less hassle than going through security twice, but the Quick Shuttle was anything but. They picked us up half an hour late, and ended up being two and a half hours late by the time we got across the border and into Vancouver, so it was a six and a half hour trip all up. I half expected it to happen, being a border crossing, so I'd deliberately booked the early service to make sure we had plenty of time. In the end it wouldn't have mattered as the late service caught up with us anyway.

Had a few hours at the airport to enjoy a last holiday dinner, watch our last late Canadian sunset, and chat about the last six weeks.

As we've said before, we really like Vancouver airport. It's quite large and spacious, but there never seems to be many people about. It was certainly the quickest security check we've done all trip. The sign board said that the delay was 0-2 minutes, and we ended up walking straight up to the x-ray machine and through the gate.

Our Air Canada flight departed just after midnight, a few minutes late, and we were on our way home.
