Everglades National Park, Florida, United States
Wednesday, February 11, 2004

After mucking around for a while sending Brendan's BCV fax to Mandy, we drove down to Sarasota to the Ringling Museum of Arts and Circus where we did a very interesting tour of the Ringling Bros memorabilia. Then on to Fort Myers for lunch and a tour of the Edison Museum, laboratory and summer house complete with a huge banyan tree. The list of Edison inventions is mind blowing. Electric light globe, electric transmission, typewriter, phonograph, moving picture machine, rubber, x-ray mechanism, voice recording machine, and telephone mechanism to name but a few.

Then just at dusk we got to the Snake Valley National Park where we saw alligators sunning on the banks, and a plethora of ducks and wild birds and turtles in the swamp. Very reminiscent of Kakadu at sunset, and left the New Orleans swampland for dead. It was just really unfortunate that we got there at sunset and only had time for a quick bus tour. Checked in to a wonderful youth hostel in the dark.
