Katherine Gorge

Katherine, Northern Territory, Australia
Friday, April 22, 1988

After a final swim in the thermal pool, which was too warm for my liking so early in the morning, we left the Mudies who had called a lay day, and headed for Katherine. After a shop and a petrol stop, we lunched in the local park, and headed for the Gorge. After setting up, and Brendan's sleep, we went down to the boat ramp for a swim in the Katherine River. The day visitors area with barbecues, seats, toilet block and cruise boat wharf is the old camping area we stayed in 20 years ago. Now we are staying in a reasonably modern park run, incidentally, by the same proprietors as the Mataranka Gorge Park. A number of kangaroos, an emu and a goanna are all residents of the caravan park much to Brendan's delight. Rang Pa for a belated birthday greeting, and Brendan had a good, though expensive, chatter.
