Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia
Sunday, April 24, 1988

We packed up and left the Mudies behind at the Gorge and headed for a last leg north. Morning tea at the remains of Pine Creek, apparently a large town in its day as a goldmining centre, but now only a small number of strung out houses. Lunch at Adelaide River in a park with a real swing! A rarity it seems up here much to Brendan's disappointment. A short visit to the war cemetery before some more driving. Saw the remains of the World War II airstrips next to the highway before turning off to Berry Springs in an interesting hunt for Thyra's farm, following her directions to no avail. After resorting to asking at the local hardware store we finally made it. After a glad reunion, a lot of talking and tour of the farm, we left to find the caravan park and pool, promising to return in the morning.
