Our 'See Darwin in a Day' program was fairly ambitious, but we managed to go to Howard Springs for morning tea with the Mudies, and an early lunch after a swim, then into Darwin for some shopping, a heritage walk of some of the notable buildings most of which have been partially or wholly restored after Cyclone Tracy, and some of which have been left in the state they ended up as a reminder and memorial. Especially notable was the Anglican Cathedral of which only the porch was left half an hour after the Christmas Eve midnight service. Thank goodness it was a short sermon. Then we went out to Fanny Bay jail which is now a museum, part of which is a display of the jail as it was in use till the late 70s, and part of which is the Cyclone Tracy Museum with photos, descriptions and a 20 minute video.
Threw some bread to the wallabies on the East Point reserve, and had fish and chips for tea overlooking Fanny Bay.
