Kakadu National Park, Northern Territory, Australia
Friday, April 29, 1988

The village is 40 km from the main park headquarters and ranger station, so we started off by heading there, and then to Jabiru township close by for morning tea -- a modern small town similar to many construction towns such as the Snowy scheme towns. We decided to make our day's exploration around Norlangie rock. Had lunch next to a large billabong, then explored the rock art on the main walking trail seeing the famous paintings and lightning man. We then went around the other side of the billabong and climbed Little Norlangie Rock lookout for a great view of the wetlands and escarpment. On to Cooinda for the 4:30 Yellow Waters cruise. Saw two crocodiles and numerous birds in the two-hour cruise -- just a touch long and uninspiring for Brendan between crocodile sightings.
