Being in a six bed public ward with those needing most care, and being the one closest to the sister station, the night is a series of half-hour naps between the nurse's ministrations all night. Not very restful as they need to check my drip at least every 20 minutes. I was uncomfortable from the tube. I found it hard to talk, awkward to swallow and more cumbersome to walk around -- but it was certainly doing its job and I no longer felt sick. Mandy checked out a lovely daycare centre for Brendan, and then came for a morning visit. At my request I was moved to a quieter and less draughty ward -- bed, drawers, table and all my gear lock, stock and barrel, and found some talkative patients. Was up for several walks and sits in the morning without being prodded, and showered unassisted, though the pyjamas are 10 sizes too big.

Had a telegram from Grandpa and Grandma, a phone call from Uncle Brett that Mandy took, and a visit from Terry and Melissa. Brendan went to Ruth's for a babysit in the evening so Mandy could visit. I was very tired because the tube was extremely irritating, and at my insistence, because there was no longer anything to aspirate, they took it out just before tea. I sent Mandy home early because I desperately wanted a sleep, and lo and behold after an hour's sleep I woke up refreshed, my bowel sprang to life, and I felt comparatively marvellous. Looking back it was all downhill from here. I went for a long walk, and had a restful night, though not much sleep thanks to the snorer next door, and the old guy vomiting across the aisle.
