Mackay

Mackay, Queensland, Australia
Monday, June 6, 1988

Took Brendan for a last look from the bridge and this morning we saw some duck like birds and the eel again. Had a visit to our caravan by a kangaroo and lots of bush turkeys. Drove almost to Eungella, and walked to the Sky Window look out which was a superb view of the valley below, and the road we climbed. Descended into the valley extremely slowly and in second gear. Even so, the brakes were smelling by the time we reached the valley floor. Stopped for morning tea at a small town called Finch Hatton, where Brendan watched the sugarcane train and trucks being tested before the start of the cutting season in a few weeks.

Arrived at Mackay for lunch, then Mandy and Brendan went shopping while I cleaned and checked the van, and did some work.

After tea we went for a tour of the Mackay township by night, and after Brendan fell asleep we did a short walk through the lovely landscaped city centre and bought doughnuts for supper.
