Took a day trip to Fraser Island with Fraser Venture Day Tours. Were picked up at 7:40 by minibus, taken to Pialba where we were transferred to a double-decker bus which proceeded to pick up passengers till about nine o'clock. Drove 20 minutes to North Head and boarded the MV Fraser Venture along with a truck and a number of four-wheel drives. After a 30 minute trip to the island, we alighted at Wanggoolba Creek into 2 four-wheel drive buses, and drove through the middle of the island from the West Coast, past Central Station to Eurong Village on the east coast.
After a short stop, we headed north along the beach (which is a designated highway) for 30 km to the Cathedrals and Pinnacle Coloured Sands. Stopped on the way back at the Maheno wreck and Eli Creek for a short boardwalk. Back at Eurong we had a chicken and salad lunch, and Brendan and Mandy had a lovely play on the sand and in the surf. Back on the bus we stopped on the return trip at Central Station for another boardwalk, past Lake Jennings to Lake Birrabeen for another short stop, then back to the boat for the return crossing. Transferred home about 5:15 by double-decker and minibus. A lovely day in different surroundings.
