Ormiston Gorge

Ormiston Gorge, Northern Territory, Australia
Friday, July 26, 1996

Backtracked slowly over the rough road to the highway, and drove through light rain into Alice Springs. The kids were excited because they were going to collect mail.  Me – I was only expecting bills.  We were both lucky.  Uncle Brett had sent the boys a letter and some footy cards, and Grandpa hadn't sent me any bills.

After fuelling up, and with a nervous glance at the sky we drove out to Ormiston Gorge.  The camping area is lovely, though without power.  The rain stopped so we did a walk through the gorge and back along the top of the cliffs.  Quite different to Kings Canyon but very pretty.

Went to the Ranger’s slide show after tea, and heard about park management using computers.  Who would think we would be wearing parkas, hats and gloves in Alice Springs!
