Left the great swimming pool behind and headed for the gates of the park. I enjoyed Kakadu more this visit, due no doubt to two things – it wasn't so hot, and there weren’t so many mosquitoes. Getting out to Obiri Rock was good too. However, I was continually surprised at how few tourists there were. This is meant to be peak time, but I reckoned there were fewer tourists here than last time quite in contrast to every other venue.
Stopped at Humpty Doo at a new wetlands information centre on the site of the failed rice growing schemes of the sixties. Excellent! Saw a great video on the wet/dry cycle in Kakadu which made more sense to the boys now that they have been there and seen it all.
Moved south to Litchfield National Park. Stopped at Bachelor for a small shop and lunch. Visited the magnetic termite mounds that are grey and thin, and are built lying north-south to keep cool. On to Florence Falls where we set up camp, and descended lots of steps to yet another plunge pool at the bottom of two waterfalls for a long afternoon soak.
