Lake Argyle

Lake Argyle, Western Australia, Australia

Well it turned out to be a long day. We had a tailwind all the way which helped consumption and speed.  Morning tea at a roadside stop, we blinked and missed Victoria River, and reached Timber Creek for lunch.  Was little to see there, and the old historic post office was shut, so we kept moving after lunch.  Got to our intended destination, which was a roadside stop, at about 3.00.  It was pretty hot and fly laden, so we did a quick calculation and realized that we could get to Lake Argyle in an hour or so.  This presented one problem.  There is a quarantine checkpoint at the border, so we sat and ate bananas, apples, oranges, grapefruit, lemon and 42 carrots for afternoon tea, fighting off the flies in the process.

Thanks to having to wind our watches back, we still arrived at afternoon tea time, which meant we had time for a swim before touring all the lookouts over Lake Argyle.  Of course the sun set very early, and the kids fell into bed at 7:30 feeling very tired.  Experienced our first roadworks and dirt road diversions today.
