Halls Creek

Halls Creek, Western Australia, Australia

It's easy to drive long distances when there is nothing to stop for. Awake before dawn thanks to the planes doing their sunrise flights over the lake next door, and probably on to Lake Argyle.

Left early and drove to Wyndham for morning tea.  Had a quick look at the wharf.  Attempted the road to the lookout, but turned back when the signs said caravans wouldn’t make it.  Morning tea on the only grass – the front lawn of the council chambers.  However thanks to the wharf, petrol is cheap.  Hardly anybody seems to live in the town.  Saw some great bronze sculptures of aborigines.

Lunch on the side of the road.  Through Turkey Creek – nothing to stop for, and on to Halls Creek.  After a frustrating stop trying to get information about Fitzroy Crossing tours, we managed to find the China Wall off the side of a side road with an apology for a sign.  Trouble seemed to be brewing amongst the natives so we went to the first roadside stop out of town.  Did some stargazing after tea.
