Well they say that trouble comes in threes, but to start at the beginning. The others were up with the birds to do the Savannah walk before breakfast. Flora and fauna and stuff like that.
About 20 km of slow going over corrugations on a dirt road got us to the Gibb River Road where it was slower going over rougher corrugations, until miraculously after another 80 kilometers it suddenly became bitumen. After a short stop to assess the dust and damage we cruised into Derby and parked in a shady spot which was fortuitously next to the local pool! A quick lunch and we hit the water. What a tropical oasis! Late in the afternoon we dragged ourselves away to tour the town and found our car had a flat battery, no doubt due to the fridge being on battery power. After jump starting the car we visited the wharf and a petrol station, all without switching off. There are 9 metre tides here.
Upon leaving Derby we hadn't got far when we shredded the caravan tyre. I changed that in the dark without switching off, and eventually made a roadside stop. To top it off we ran out of gas during tea.
