Nobody really wanted to leave Broome, but we dragged ourselves away for what was a fairly boring drive. We reached Sandfire Roadhouse for petrol close on lunchtime, and seeing that they had a patch of grass we decided to use it.
45 mins later we turned down a dirt road for 10 km to access the 80 mile beach. There is a caravan park at the end of the track on the beachfront right opposite the Wallal Downs station, so I gather it may be a small venture on the side.
We didn't stay at the park, but we did spend the afternoon on the beach, which true to its name was 80 miles of wide unbroken white sand and surf. Very similar to Cable Beach, but lots of fishermen instead of swimmers.
As the sun got lower we retraced our tracks over the dirt road back to the highway and stopped at a convenient roadside stop for the night. Spent the evening star gazing with the help of the binoculars.
