Clouds! For the first time since leaving Darwin we have had real clouds.  We drove in and out of shadows between our roadside stop and Port Hedland.  Still very warm, but now with a breeze, we visited the information centre and went for a drive around the Port.  All the houses were very dusty and dirty, so presumably there is a lot of wind.  Most are fibro cement, and many have cyclone protection over the windows.

Had lunch and watched a local softball game which was very pleasant.  Then gave the boys a short swim at Pretty Pool, before moving on to have a drive around South Hedland – the residential part of the city.  It is pretty obvious that BHP runs the town.  Saw several very long trains, the local salt works and the port entrance.  Not very many tourist spots at the caravan parks, as BHP monopolises them for employee housing, so we departed for a roadside stop 60 kms towards Newman.  It was terrific with lots of shade, and we had tea outside on a table by moonlight.
