We retraced our tracks over the dirt road back to the Onslow road, then back to the main highway. We needed to stop for petrol at Nanaturra roadhouse in order to make it to Exmouth, but petrol was 96¢ a litre, the highest since Kings Creek station and a blatant rip off, so I bought the minimum possible as a futile protest. Took the dirt short cut to Exmouth saving over 100 kilometres, and it turned out to be in quite good condition, with even a few made sections.
Lunch at a roadside stop, then Exmouth at afternoon tea time. After filling up on petrol at a reasonable rate and making sure that there was a camping site available for us, we drove into Cape Range National Park, and camped at 'Neds Camp'! A bit like the prom really. Right on the beach with only a dune separating us from wet feet. No facilities or water – just a pit toilet. After tea we listened to the Sydney Swans win the last game of the season to finish as minor premier’s – the first time since 1945. Hawthorn may play them in the finals next weekend in Sydney.
