Kalbarri National Park, Western Australia, Australia
Sunday, September 8, 1996

Spent last night sitting in the car with the radio fading in and out of the night final between Hawthorn and the Swans. After being level nearly all the game the Swans were a goal up at the siren eliminating the Hawks.  Oh well!

Gum trees appeared today, and lo and behold, whole paddocks of grass and crops.  We now have farms instead of stations.  Detoured into Kalbarri township for morning tea.  A nice seaside town in the mould of Apollo Bay.  Played on the beach and went for a walk.  Brendan's eyes nearly popped out his head at the size of the surf, but the currents were too strong to swim.

Went to the Rainbow Jungle which has a large number of parrots and rosellas in large aviaries.  Well done and interesting.  Ate our lunch there, and then after the tour of the town, went out to the Kalbarri National Park.

Unhitched the caravan and drove to see Z Bend and The Loop where we looked through a natural hole called 'nature’s window’ at the Murchison River below.  Mandy finally succumbed to putting on a windcheater – the first since Devil’s Marbles.  I’ll resist another day.  Another roadside stop.
