A straightforward run to Esperance with nothing much to see in between. Arrived at morning tea time, and hit a coffee shop after setting up. Wandered around the town for a while and did a little shopping before lunch.
After lunch we went to the local museum set up in an old railway storage shed. It was very well done for a local museum, with the star exhibit being chunks of Skylab that fell to earth after a malfunction.
A wander out to Tanker Jetty where we didn't see any sea lions, before driving the 38 kilometre tourist drive past the Rotary lookout, two wind farms which produce 15 per cent of the town's power, some lovely lookouts over Twilight Beach and the islands off the coast, Observatory Point where the French frigate l’Esperance sheltered in 1872, and the Pink Lake which was only vaguely the expected colour.
A lovely town that would be great in summer when the weather is better. Well geared for tourists and travellers.
